Ullapool ( Scottish Gaelic: Ulapul) is a village of around 1,500 inhabitants in Ross and Cromarty, Scottish Highlands, located around 45 miles (72 km) north-west of Inverness.
On the east shore of Loch Broom, Ullapool was founded in 1788 as a herring port by the British Fisheries Society. It was designed by Thomas Telford. Before then the town was only an insignificant hamlet of just over 20 households. The harbour is used as a fishing port, yachting haven, and ferry port. Ferries sail to Stornoway in the Outer Hebrides.
Despite its small size Ullapool is the largest settlement for many miles around, and an important port and tourist destination. The North Atlantic Drift passes Ullapool, moderating the temperature. The town lies on Loch Broom, on the A835 road from Inverness. The Ullapool River flows through the village. (Wikipedia)........

That is a fabulous storm cloud in your pre-dawn image!! I hope you didn't stay around long, or got wet!! I don't recall ever having seen such a cloud like this!! Thanks again for sharing!!
Lesley Evered replied:
Thanks very much for visiting Tony and for your very nice comments. I seem to remember that the stormy clouds blew over with the daylight so all was well....but it was great to look at with the upcoming daybreak.

Lovely, Lesley. Wonderful light and mood, with a sense of mystery. I was only 2 yrs old when we lived there during WWII, but still remember going up and down the hills near Broughty Ferry on the back of my Dad's bicycle. LF

Magical and well worth getting up early for! It also reminds me of the long wait for the ferry, as we did not dare risk missing it.
Lesley Evered replied:
Yes, I remember the long ferry wait too....but so worth it. Thanks for your lovely comments on this one....most appreciated.
