Thanks very much Kathryn.....I didn't know there was a novel based on this castle....but of course, there was bound to be!!! Such history. I visited one half term so the guides were all dressed in period costume and gave informal talks to the children (and us adults who loved it!!!) in different parts of the castle. Brought it all to life.

Thanks very much Martha for your super comments. I am very sure you would love to see this castle. My friend and I spent the entire day there and only left because they were closing for the day!!! The English Heritage guides were excellent and brought the history to life.
